Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are the stars of the new vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The story follows a blue collar father who wants to provide a comfortable life for his daughter. However, his job as a pool cleaner in San Fernando Valley is just a façade for his true source of income: hunting and killing vampires for the International Union of Vampire Hunters.
It sounds like a fun idea, but can J.J. Perry bring it to life?
The opening scene in "Day Shift" is a crazy action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire, which then becomes this nuts fight sequence between the two of them that is such a blast. The movie's use of rag-doll physics in its action scenes makes them pop in a way other Netflix action movies (or blockbusters) do not. It's hard to not think about the old adage that "action speaks more than words". But, "Day Shift" has a unique ability to employ both dialogue and action to enhance the story and character development. Jamie Foxx's vampire-killing scene ends with him having a funny and dry conversation about how he thought she would turn into a bat or some other creature. It's moments like this that help to elevate "Day Shift" above other similar movies.
Day Shift, another lighthearted and fun film, was one that I really enjoyed. It had original action and didn't require me to think too much. I enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed the humor and found myself laughing quite a lot. Of course, it was inspired by some fantastic vampire films such Blade and Lost Boys. Both of these films happen to be some my favorite movies. The acting was excellent, the directing was fantastic and the cinematography was very good. Day Shift will satisfy those who are looking for something that is entertaining but not too serious. It's great fun.
Day Shift was a very mixed movie. The movie has a lot to offer, including some action scenes that are fun and some characters like the two brothers and Seth. But the villain is horrible and there are many mediocre characters. That helps the stronger characters shine more. There appeared to be scenes missing from the film. Bud's neighbor acts like she is a friend even though they only had about 3 minutes each before the final scene. Bud making prank vampire movies calls at the gas station while he was working at his job is the best part. It was hilarious and it was so much fun to watch. Then, however, the movie went on and the movie was far less enjoyable. Day Shift is mixed. There are some great parts and some terrible parts. You could find a better movie if you are looking for some laughs.
The movie is worth the effort thanks to Snoop Dogg. I mean, who doesn't love Snoop Dogg? He's cool.
